Jess Klein & Mike June

plus support from Rosie Doonan & Gary Stewart

Artists' websites: Jess Klein / Mike June / Rosie Doonan / Gary Stewart

Jess Klein says of her new album Learning Faith. “It’s edgy and brutal, but it was inspired by a genuine love for this world.”

When Jess Klein sings her songs, it’s clear you’re experiencing “a very talented and highly gifted singer-songwriter,” hails Maverick magazine. Over the last 15 years her artistic gifts have taken her across North America and Europe and around the globe to Japan, and have consistently won her an ever-growing legion of devoted fans and followers, plus high critical praise over what is now seven albums.

Over a career that spans more than a decade and a half and has won her a devoted worldwide fan base, Klein—who possesses what Mojo magazine calls “one of those voices you want to crawl up close to the speakers to listen to” and a knack for writing songs that the Cape Cod Times has described as “fully realized, finely observed and deeply felt”—has pursued a remarkable creative evolution that’s seen her dig ever deeper for resonant emotional insights, while continuing to refine her eloquently melodic, effortlessly accessible songcraft. As the New York Times noted, Klein is an artist who “has country roots, but who pushes her songs toward philosophical thoughts.”

Jess is travelling over from the States with Mike June, a singer and songwriter from Austin, TX, who will be performing with Jess as well as playing his own songs. He was born in Middletown, New York and raised in New Jersey. June released his first critically-acclaimed solo record, Crooked, in 2002, followed by Lovesick in 2007. He moved to Austin, TX in 2009. In 2012 he released two records: the roots and folk infused Exile on Wilson Street and politically-minded rocker Talkin Revolution Blues. Both records received praise and ended up on many critics "Best of 2012" list.

Rosie Doonan is an accomplished musician, singer and songwriter whose music career so far has included tours with Peter Gabriel and Birdy, two solo albums, Moving On (2007) and Pot of Gold (2010) and an EP she recorded last year under the name of her alter-ego, the boogie-woogie singer Cissie Redgwick. Her latest project is a Leeds-based three-handed band Crybabycry which she formed in 2014 with a couple of friends and which is already receiving rave reviews. .

Gary Stewart, a Scottish singer/songwriter has carved out a strong fan-base in his adopted home of Leeds and around the U.K. with songs about paranoia, love and prostitution. When not playing his own shows Gary also plays drums for Hope+Social, plays guitar + sings for Rosie.
