Alana Levandoski: After the release of her first album Unsettled Down (Rounder Records), Alana Levandoski has been widely touring during 2005 and 2006. I saw her a year or so ago and was captivated by her music, and am delighted to have the chance to bring her up to York this year.
With three Western Canadian tours, a cross Canada run with Corb Lund and the Hurtin' Albertans, a Rounder Europe tour in early '06, with two UK tours to follow, and a jaunt through Ireland with Blue Rodeo, she is back home working on early stages of her second record.
Alana's reputation has been bolstered by performing alongside Dar Williams, Lynn Miles, Randy Bachman, Tal Bachman, Lindy, Caroline Herring and Tanya Tucker. She has also co-written with Canadian folk matriarch Sylvia Tyson as well as Mark Simos(Alison Krauss), Simon Wilcox, Colin Linden, Gary Nichols, James LeBlanc, George Canyon, and Colin Cripps.
Bob Harris of BBC2 says: "Alana is part of an emerging generation of new artists who are reflecting the range of influences that make Canadian music so exciting." Hailed as "the best new artist I've heard come along since Mindy Smith" - Maverick Magazine, and "the 'it girl' of Canadian roots music this year" - Bill Stunt CBC, Alana has gained a reputation in the business as a great writer "with bags of potential".
